Below you will find all of my Facebook Status Updates for the month of February in case you missed them
DAY 28
Good morning its #Day28 of #BlackHistoryMonth lets us focus on the man in the mirror today. To clarify I mean man in the totality of mankind not just the male species. When we look at that man in the mirror we are forced to truly see ourselves. Then let us hold that mirror up to our continued struggle.
The evidence before us suggests that the lack of unified leadership has forced us into a stalemate. The evidence before us suggests that the lack of true people centered leadership has forced us into a stalemate. The evidence before us suggests that every time there has been strong unity there has been strategic dissemination. The evidence suggests that we’ve been had, led astray, bamboozled into thinking that we have experienced true progress. During our days of being forced into Jim Crow, during our days of fighting for civil rights there was always an element of unity despite our differences. What happened? What lessons did we miss in the lives and murders of our leaders?
That’s where the man in the mirror comes into the equation. Prayer changes things yes it does. But the operative word in that idiom is change. Change in that sentence is a verb. In elementary school we were taught verbs are words of action; therefore our prayers must be done in motion. #FrederickDouglass said it best, “I prayed for twenty years but received no answer until I prayed with my legs”. We must pray with our legs more.
Six years have passed us by with this presidency and we have yet to truthfully and consistently have a conversation about our community needs. We have less than two years left to make him face himself in the mirror. Just because he has a similar face does not mean he identifies with us. Leadership does not require previous experience but a will to serve. Leadership is not a one man working alone but teamwork. You may not possess the charisma necessary but you possess the ability to write. You may not possess the finances but you possess the ability to serve. You may not possess the ability to write but you possess the ability to teach. Let us use our strengths to build our team.
Today I may have made Black History. I may never be credited for it in the history so called history books but I am confident I inspired someone. Someone maybe inspired to go read, write, teach or give money to a real organization to improve the lives of Black people or maybe just spend their dollar with a black business. I am aware other ethnic minority groups have their own special goals but I must focus on those that mean most to me. I digress, sometimes our most important ideas or actions aren’t recorded in the aforementioned books yet somehow they still remain historic. I am aware I did not lay out a step by step action plan let me say that was not the purpose for today. The action steps must come after we have a conversation to form a united front in our communities across the country. Take a look at yourself in the mirror and think about how that face will feel when 20, 30, or 50 years have passed and Jim Crow is still standing in its shadow.
DAY 27
#Day27 of #BlackHistoryMonth let us recognize #SamCooke not only was he gifted with a great voice he was gifted with a great mind and saw the bigger picture many musicians failed to see where the true wealth of the industry was hidden. Publishing! Check out some information on him and his classic song that was a pseudo anthem to the 60’s Black Struggle.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam_Cooke
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOYuhLNwh3A
People have pondered the true reason for his murder since that fatal day December 11, 1964.
Today #Day27 of #BlackHistoryMonth let us remember that Black History is more than the facts one can read in a book. Everyday we are walking Black History we have the opportunity and God given ability to do extraordinary things if we apply ourselves.
We don’t have to be great orators to inspire, cultivate, or birth a great orator. We don’t have to be a great scientist to to inspire, cultivate, or birth a great scientist. We don’t have to be a great mathematician to to inspire, cultivate, or birth a great mathematician. We don’t have to be a great businessman to to inspire, cultivate, or birth a great businessman.
The point is we are not just entertainers we have the mental capacities to use our minds to do astronomical things. AFRICA is proof of that. The continent is not just full of huts but mighty castles and architectural wonders that most people who do not live there will ever see unless they visit with the natives.
I digress the point of this post today is to remember when you look in the mirror the face you see has great ability to do something tremendously that is and will forever more be Black History even if your deeds are never recorded in textbooks to educate our children scholastically. There is much truth to the idiom “put it in a book they will never find it” think on that today. In the meantime check out this amazing website http://www.blackbusinessnetwork.com/Home/?CFID=3821017&CFTOKEN=a868b28c6d60ca37-8491FA36-D567-0A88-6A3A92472DC2BB55
another #Day27 of #BlackHistoryMonth let us remember another city that suffered destruction because of a race riot #WilmintonNC1898 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wilmington_Insurrection_of_1898 let us also remember the #Wilmington10 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wilmington_Ten
DAY 26 “Day of Love for Black Boys”
Good morning today #Day26 of #BlackHistoryMonth I remember #TrayvonnMartin not simply just to commemorate his short life but to acknowledge all of the boys on the brink of adulthood who have been slain unjustly out of “fear” for life. So lets us remember #GeorgeStinney #EmmettTill #ScottsboroBoys #CentralPark5 #Gena6 #JordanDavis and I am fully aware that not all of the aforementioned were slain; however let us use their memories or the memories of their struggle to fuel a positive trend in our homes and communities.
My hope for today is that we use it to begin an ANNUAL celebration focused on strengthening the brain power of Black young men. How can we do that? By using that money to purchase a new book for our boys. Think of it as a “Day of Love for Black Boys”.
Moreover, this very month contains one of, if not the most commercial holiday’s celebrated which in this case is female centered, but let us ponder momentarily the question, who demonstrates love to our male children and when? The image of the black male is consistently under attack and psychologically that is dangerous. So then let us create a counter measure by which we can fight that negative image. We can counter that with showing our Black male children love in the form of buying them BOOKS with POSITIVE images of themselves. But let us buy those BOOKS at BLACK BOOKSTORES so not only are we supporting our FUTURE we are supporting our PRESENT.
How are we supporting both FUTURE and PRESENT? We are building strong men for our FUTURE the way #FrederickDouglass suggested and supporting our PRESENT by keeping business owners open and hopefully hurting those companies that supported the “defense” of #TrayvonnMartin murderer whose name I refuse to speak in the same process. What did Brother Douglass say? It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men. We know what this prison industrial complex has given us thus far let us counteract that on this day. “Day of Love for Black Boys”!!!
DAY 25
#Day25 of #BlackHistoryMonth let us remember #MarcusMosiahGarvey http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marcus_Garvey and #WEBDuBois http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W._E._B._Du_Bois who helped to shape the ideologies of #MalcolmX http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malcolm_x
#Day25 of #BlackHistoryMonth let us also remember #MartinLutherKing but not for the “dream” speech but for the last speech he gave…. the one that is taught in scholastic books because he deterred from his original ideologies and attempted to teach others to do the same. Take a listen for yourself http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ixfwGLxRJU8 and of course more reading material.
another #Day25 #BlackHistoryMonth person to recognize is DR Umar Abdullah Johnson

DAY 23
#Day23 #BlackHistoryMonth
Black History should not be a celebrated or read only during February so some may criticize me for posting everyday this month but someone has to. Don’t worry I won’t only post during February and if this annoys you go ahead and delete me but I sincerely agree with this quote.
History is a people’s memory, and without a memory, man is demoted to the lower animals.
~Malcolm X

DAY 20
ok one last post before the day is over…. as I said in my post on Day 13 music is a legacy for Black people to cherish…. our music is loved worldwide in one way or another with that said I look forward to this documentary from 9th Wonder #HipHop deserves it…. every genre of music from the children of the diaspora has a great deal of pain or outcry built in #Day20 #BlackHistoryMonth http://blogs.indiewire.com/shadowandact/trailer-doc-the-harvard-fellow-9th-wonders-tenure-at-harvard-university-as-adjunct-professor
I have some studying to do but I did want to offer some more history #Day20 of #BlackHistoryMonth I would use as hash tag but you can read the link and learn more about it…. instead of calling someone an “uncle tom” or a “tom” this is the correct word http://destee.com/index.php?threads%2Funcle-tom-vs-sambo-quimbo.70144%2F Spike Lee made a film that dealt with the stereotypes of someone who would be guilty of the characteristics titled #Bamboozled http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0215545/?ref_=nv_sr_5
#Day20 of #BlackHistoryMonth how can a group of people protect their heritage, legacy, culture….? Through language!!!! Blacks throughout the Diaspora were intentionally stripped of their language. You know how you feel when you patronize another groups place of business and they switch from English to their native tongue? Its a safe place for them but you usually find yourself annoyed. The most consistent kinship that Africans throughout the world share is music and dance. The drums when the drums come on something in our blood makes us want to move. Its one of the very few ways we can stay connected to our ancestry and one of few things that cannot be taken awake from us. So in light of all of that I wanted to share something I admire whenever I encounter Nigerians who speak #Igbo (I hope I spelled that right) I don’t know that the language was never tampered with by “colonialist” considering I am not a historian but whenever I hear it I may never understand or speak it but I respect it. here is a link for a little information as always dig deeper. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Igbo_people
DAY 19
#Day19 of #BlackHistoryMonth let us remember Gil Scott-Heron http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gil_Scott-Heron here is some of his work http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rGaRtqrlGy8
DAY 18
#Day18 of #BlackHistoryMonth today let us recognize #BlackWallStreet or the #GreenwoodDistrictOfTulsaOklahoma http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greenwood,_Tulsa,_Oklahoma My sincerest hope and desire is that we will once again achieve this. People will argue different cities today have this; however, if we dug a little deeper I think we would all come to the consensus that there maybe cities today that are close but they cannot hold a torch to this legacy…. yet
DAY 17
#Day17 of #BlackHistoryMonth I would also like to recognize this great King. I believe he inspired Stan Lee’s creation of the Black Panther because of one of the variations of his name spelling and his military strength and intellect #ShakaKaSenzangakhona or more commonly known as #ShakaZulu http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shaka which is sometimes spelled #Tchaka which made me think of this http://marvel.wikia.com/T%27Chaka_%28Earth-616%29
#Day17 of #BlackHistoryMonth I would like to recognize these women #QueenAmina http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amina #QueenMakeda http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Makeda
DAY 16
#Day16 of #BlackHistoryMonth let us remember that we have a legacy before the world dispersed us into many lands not just the 13 Colonies…. here are a few kingdoms to read up on… #Kush http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingdom_of_Kush #Songhay http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Songhay_Empire #MaliEmpire http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mali_Empire
My mind is heavy once again. What does one say to a parent who buries their child? Much worse a parent who has the immensely heavy burden of burying a child slain in murder. A murder based solely on hatred or disdain for the color of your child’s skin. I am not certain there are words in any language that can honestly speak the truth of that effectively. So then the question I most urgently need answered is two fold who will pray for the Black Boys? Who will protect them?
Initially I toyed with the idea of using the word negro instead of Black in my aforementioned question. However, after repeatedly mouthing the words Black seemed more befitting. Black is stronger than negro, negro in my opinion is dismissive of that strength. However, I was drawn to negro because of the poet in me. The word negro is used several times in Harlem Renaissance Poetry which I enjoy and I wanted to pay homage to, yet negro didn’t carry the weight of this blurb the way I needed it to. I digress, again I ask who will pray for the Black Boys? I want to make it clear that I am not dismissing the effect of the diaspora on our women they are under attack as well and that topic is necessary of discussion as well but today I pray, cry for our princes.
We are told to turn the other cheek and be forgiving without questioning anyone not even God himself. Yet two men have attacked a member of our family and correct me if I am wrong but I do not recall anyone asking them why they didn’t turn the other cheek when they felt wronged. In the years since this nation declared itself to be independent I have yet to see the truths held evident that all men were created equal. I will NOT forget slavery! Every other people group who was wrong by this nation or other nations in power, so called power has been compensated in some form except for Black people.
Allow me to tie up these loose ends by saying that the we should not be shocked that any of our lives are expendable in a nation that has strategically dismissed, diminished, and destroyed our strength since since its inception. I am not shocked in the least at the most recent two verdicts that have left us all upset because they are only a microcosm of a continued legacy of breaking down a royal people. How does one destroy a nation by removing the men who would protect it. So my dear people the only way we can destroy the trojan horse that has infiltrated our unity since Virginia’s ordinance of Mandatory Manumission is by unifying as a people and standing our own ground.
~Just Random Concentrated Thoughts of a Black Man
DAY 15
#Day15 of #BlackHistoryMonth the day after well you know that day… let us focus on another venture of Black Business #Blaxploitation this “genre” or “sub genre” as some circles would call this gave tinseltown the blueprint to what would come to be known as Low Budget and Ultralow Budget movies…. the blueprint still survives and thrives today…. so this day after that day be sure to watch a blaxploitation film several are on Netflix and they werent all just action films…. I will post an interview about a modern era film of that genre below and a full length film below in the comments section…
another post for #Day15 of #BlackHistoryMonth in light of the news that a certain well liked female artist made a mockery of one of our great warriors of a human being with a music release I want to recognize female Emcees that really rocked the mic right MC Lyte Queen Latifah Ms. Lauryn Hill Erykah Badu Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes just to name a few…. there are others but these I respect most….
DAY 14
#Day14 of #BlackHistoryMonth on this day of commerce to show or spread love let us show or spread commercial love with a Black Business whether it is a local business or an eBusiness. But in the meantime these are the people I recognize today #MadamCJWalker http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madam_C._J._Walker Carol’s Daughter http://www.carolsdaughter.com/ The Dock Bookshop http://www.thedockbookshop.com/ Crave Catering and Event Planning http://www.cravecateringandeventplanning.com/event-planning/ please be sure to patronize businesses in your own community who are Black Owned at least for today or in celebration of today over the weekend.
DAY 13
#Day13 of #BlackHistoryMonth I want to acknowledge #ScottJoplin http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scott_Joplin #EdwardEllington http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duke_Ellington #WilliamBasie http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Count_Basie #LouisArmstrong http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louis_Armstrong Miles Davis http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miles_Davis Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews & Orleans Avenue http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trombone_Shorty eventually if you read the links you can figure out the connection. With out this genre of music combined with Gospel I find it hard to see the evolution of Blues into Rock and Roll into Rhythm and Blues and eventually into Hip Hop which led to Rap. They are all interconnected and all have very similar subject matters just take a listen today.
DAY 12
#Day12 of #BlackHistoryMonth I have a few names for you #FrederickDouglass http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frederick_Douglass and here are some of his quotes http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/authors/f/frederick_douglass.html also today read up on #DickGregory http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dick_Gregory and here are some of his quotes http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/authors/d/dick_gregory.html also #BookerTWashington http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Booker_T._Washington here are some of his quotes http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/authors/b/booker_t_washington.html and Dr. Cornel West http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cornel_West and here are some quotes http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/authors/c/cornel_west.html

DAY 8
my thoughts on a murderer being a “celeb boxer”
if they offered me the fight I would impolitely decline… I refuse to mention your name you won’t gain more status on my spine… and to the idiot who signed on the blood dotted line… how much did it cost to take your soul hook, sinker, and line… that murder could have been your son but maybe you considered that… could have been your nephew really doesn’t matter after you consider the central fact… you signed consent to ignore the history… and in fact agreed to continue the bloody legacy… a lamenting sorrowful legacy of swinging bodies hanging from trees… if you missed the analogy just take a brief listen to Summer Time… no the murderer didn’t use a tree but the violence comes from the same heart… besides its poetic, literature is timeless so any argument you have is what makes it poetically smart….
DAY 7
#Day7 of #BlackHistoryMonth I choose #OscarMicheaux http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oscar_Micheaux
DAY 6
another person I think is worthy of mention for #BlackHistoryMonth is Michael Eric Dyson his intellect extends courageously through his prophetic and poetic prose just take a look at some of his quotes to follow in the comment section below…
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Eric_Dyson http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/authors/m/michael_eric_dyson.html
Hurricane Katrina overwhelmed levees and exploded the conventional wisdom about a shared American prosperity, exposing a group of people so poor they didn’t have $50 for a bus ticket out of town. If we want to learn something from this disaster, the lesson ought to be: America’s poor deserve better than this.
~Michael Eric Dyson
Class certainly loomed large in Katrina’s aftermath. Blacks of means escaped the tragedy; blacks without them suffered and died. In reality, it is how race and class interact that made the situation for the poor so horrible on the Gulf Coast. The rigid caste system that punishes poor blacks and other minorities also targets poor whites.
~Michael Eric Dyson
because #BlackHistory is far more extensive than I could ever share I will post multiple people from here on out… at the moment my #BlackHistoryMonth person is #BobMarley http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Marley
